We are delighted to announce that we now offer SHSM Certifications in Advanced Training in a Technique and Reach Ahead Experiences for the Arts & Culture Sector.

Advanced Training in a Technique and Reach Ahead Experiences are available at KAS, on-location, or virtually. KAS can accommodate up to 16 people in the indoor studio, or outdoor classroom. On-location and virtual events can accommodate any size. Events can be customized to include multiple techniques and experiences. Please choose from the list below:

David Rheaume

 

David is an internationally acclaimed artist of Métis heritage with experience in filmmaking, curating, lecturing, and illustrating books. Dave’s paintings reflect his film experience with their sense of story, composition, and lighting. See here for samples of his work. Acrylic glazing on canvas. Students learn to paint with lighting and perspective from a film director/producer’s point of view. Developing your artist brand.

With his extensive experience in film and fine arts, David knows how to distinguish himself in highly-competitive industries.

Halia Gawadzyn-Palaszczuk Halia is an internationally acclaimed Ukrainian craft-maker with over 62 years of experience in pysanky, wreath weaving, embroidery, and encaustic. Traditional Ukrainian craft.

Students can choose to learn pysanky (egg writing using pigment dye or encaustic), wheat wreath weaving, or embroidery.

Deon Best  Deon is a Caribbean born multi-disciplinary artist who draws inspiration from nature and animals. As one of Canada’s premier Modern Batik artists, he has instructed hundreds of students of all ages across Ontario over the past 12 years. “ Modern Batik.

Students learn to transform textiles into bold, colourful works of art using wax, dyes, and ink.

Barbara Chapman Barbara considers art education a lifelong journey but has received formal training in art and art history at Sheridan and UofT. Born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland, her pieces reflect the beautiful, rugged coastline, and bring to life the stories of her childhood. East Coast traditional fibre art.

Students can choose to learn felted landscapes, visible mending, or upcycled accessories.

Jenni Morley (Founder) Jenni has been teaching art to students of all ages for over 45 years. She specializes in watercolour and ink  and draws inspiration from nature, especially native Ontario wildflowers. General fine arts.

Students can choose to learn Sumié (traditional Japanese ink painting), watercolour, or meditative brush painting.

Starting a small business in the arts.

Jenni understands the unique challenges and rewards of building a small business in the Arts. She started KAS from her kitchen table with one weekly class of three students. Today, KAS has grown into a 1000-square-foot studio and private art gallery hosting classes, workshops, and private events from 11 instructors from around the world.
